내아내와 내 아들과 셋이서 함께 가보고 싶던 조영남 아저씨의 충청도 노래에 비하면 정말 살벌한 가사를 가진 곡이다. 나와 결혼해주지 않는 약혼자를 강둑으로 불러내 가슴에 칼을 박고 쓸쓸히 돌아오는 오하이오 강둑에서의 쓸쓸한 마음을 담담히 그렸다. 여기에는 목가적인 풍경도 또 행복하고 건전한 가족의 사랑도 없다.

나 어릴때 누구나 다 하나는 가지고 있던 책받침속의 올리비아 뉴튼존이 웃으며 살랑살랑 이노래를 부르는 풍경은 거의 엽기에 가깝다. 다른 가사를 보면 결국은 잡혀서 감옥에 가는 그런 내용이 있기도 하고, 남자가 부를때는 여자친구를 죽이고, 또 아버지와 결혼한 젊은 여자를 죽이기도 하는 등의 조금은 변형된 여러버전이 있다.
